FORGET NOT GOD’S BENEFITS – Day 16

Today’s benefit is if you stay in Jesus Christ and obey His commands, you may ask any request you like, and it will be granted!

John 15:7Living Bible (TLB)

But if you stay in me and obey my commands, you may ask any request you like, and it will be granted!

Today I took my youngest grandson, Gabe to the Safeway Grocery store with me. He was so excited because they have miniature shopping carts and since he is 4 years old, they were just the right size for him. I let him put some things in his cart. He asked if he could buy a Hot Wheels car. He had already asked for a blue Gatorade. So I asked Gabe, “Which would you rather have, the blue Gatorade or the blue Hot Wheels?” To which he replied, “Both”.

Children are so refreshing. It never crossed Gabe’s mind to pick one or the other. This is why God tells you that you must become like a little child to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

Matthew 18:3 New International Version
And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

So many times you go to God and feel like you cannot ask God for more than one thing.

And if you dare ask God for anything, surely it must be something you need, nothing frivolous. Can you truly imagine the strain it would be on God if you asked Him for more than one thing? Can’t you see God raising His eyebrows as you attempt to ask Him for something you “want” and do not “need”?

Even though I am joking with you, my hope is that you will see the silliness in this kind of thinking. God is love and loves blessing you! God takes pleasure in your prosperity! (Psalm 35:27)

Think about it for a moment. God is so unwilling to see you go to hell when you die, that He gave His only Son, Jesus Christ to be tortured, maimed and die a cruel death on the cross so that you can go to heaven to live with Him forever when you die. Do you really think He doesn’t want to bless you in the here and now? Yes! God wants to bless you in the here and now!

GOD LOVES BLESSING YOU

John 15:7Living Bible (TLB)

But if you stay in me and obey my commands, you may ask any request you like, and it will be granted!

Jesus, Himself said, if we stay in Him and obey His commands, you may ask any request you like, and it will be granted! Wow! A child would just accept what Jesus said and ask for what he or she wanted just like Gabe did.

On top of that, as Gabe’s “Nana”, I couldn’t turn him down. The Word says, in Matthew 7:11 NIV, “If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”

I asked Gabe, “What was the best part of your day?”  Gabe replied, “Getting a toy, getting to drive the little shopping cart and getting the cookie.” It takes so little to make children happy.

In the “Forget Not God’s Benefits” series, we are endeavoring to find all of God’s benefits for us so that we can obey and enjoy Psalms 103:2 which tells us to “Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul, and forget not [one of] all His benefits—”.

Today’s benefit is if you stay in Jesus Christ and obey His commands, you may ask any request you like, and it will be granted!

It is time to read our passage out loud and to meditate on it. I am anticipating great and awesome end results! READY? READ.

Psalm 103:1-5 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

Psalm 103
[A Psalm] of David.

1 Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul; and all that is [deepest] within me, bless His holy name!
2 Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul, and forget not [one of] all His benefits—
3 Who forgives [every one of] all your iniquities, Who heals [each one of] all your diseases,
4 Who redeems your life from the pit and corruption, Who beautifies, dignifies, and crowns you with loving-kindness and tender mercy;
5 Who satisfies your mouth [your necessity and desire at your personal age and situation] with good so that your youth, renewed, is like the eagle’s [strong, overcoming, soaring]!

Happy Nana,
