I originally posted this blog on my personal site (http://purplepenguinjen.com/2011/12/gratitude-the-key-to-money-acceptance/), but I wanted to add the Biblical background and share it with all of you too!
Today, I was listening to an audio training by Ray Higdon on Money Acceptance. It was so good that I wanted to share what I learned with all of you. His main point was that Gratitude is the key to Money Acceptance. Being able to accept money is an important milestone on your journey to success in any business or ministry. Looks look at a few truths related to Money Acceptance, and why gratitude is the key.
Money Acceptance Truths:
1. If you have a negative outlook on money, you will always be poor.
With this negative mindset, your brain gives off brain waves that repel money away from you. You subconsciously tell the world that you don’t want money. Since you tell the world that you don’t want money, you’ll never have any.
Proverbs 23:7a [If you give place to negative thoughts, you will become a negative person.] For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.
2. Money is NOT evil.
People can choose to use money in an evil manner if they wish. People can also choose to use money for good, generous purposes. Money is just a tool, a resource, a means of trading time and energy for other goods. You have to see money for what it is: a piece of paper that someone traded you for your time, energy, and talents. It says that they value you and your time, energy, and talents.
The bible specifies that the Love of Money is evil, not money itself…
I Timothy 6:10 New Living Translation (©2007)
For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.
3. If you bring value to this world, you deserve to be compensated for it.
Plus, it takes money to get your value out to the world. For example, Tony Robbins is a great teacher that is highly respected. People spend lots of money to attend one of his seminars. It also takes a lot of money to put on one of these seminars. If Tony hadn’t been properly compensated on previous value given, he would not have the funds available to hold a seminar, which means he would be limited to reach fewer people. For you to get your value out to the world, you have to have resources.
Proverbs 13:22 ESV
A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the sinner’s wealth is laid up for the righteous.
There’s no way you’ll be able to leave an inheritance great enough to spread to your grandchildren if you’re living in poverty from being unable to accept money.
How to Accept Money:
What is Gratitude? From Dictionary.com:
“grat·i·tude [grat-i-tood, -tyood] noun
the quality or feeling of being grateful or thankful: He expressed his gratitude to everyone on the staff.”
Have you ever noticed that the people who criticize and complain are the ones always having money problems? Have you ever noticed that they are probably ungrateful for what they do have?
Step 1: Gratitude starts with the little things.
Be thankful for an internet connection that allows you to see this blog. Be thankful for the computer you have that takes you to the internet (even if it’s a borrowed or public computer). Be thankful for the breath in your lungs, as it means you are still among the living. Be thankful for family, friends, and all the other people in your life.
I Thessalonians 5:18 New American Standard Bible (©1995)
“In everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Step 2: Praise or be positive towards the people who have abundance.
Have massive gratitude for the ones who have the things you desire. This is not a world of scarcity. The fact that they have it doesn’t mean that you can’t have it too.
The mediocre people (those who have just enough) and the poor: They speak ill of those who have more than them, and they justify their reasons for being separated from wealth and abundance.
Luke 6:45 [Those whose hearts and minds are filled with negative thoughts usually spread them by voicing them.] A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good: and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
By speaking negatively about those with more, you subconsciously tell the world that you do not wish to have abundance… you find it dirty, dishonest, unacceptable, and you don’t want to join the ranks.
By speaking positively about those with more, you attract abundance to you, because you subconsciously tell the world that you desire abundance and you appreciate all the efforts of those with more because they must have worked hard to get there and you wish to join their ranks too.
Now, think about it…. Would you rather associate with someone who is constantly critical of those with abundance or would you rather associate with someone who is constantly praising the great deeds of those with abundance? You have to be whichever one you want to associate with. You can’t be critical and attract people who will praise you. You can’t be someone who gives praise and attract critical people.
So, I think I’ve rambled on long enough. If you want to download and listen to the full audio teaching by Ray Higdon, click the link below. It’s about 19 ½ minutes long, but well worth all the time!
