The name Jehovah = the redemptive name of deity and means “The self-existent one who reveals Himself.” There are parallel names of Jehovah that reveal different aspects of God. Today we are going to discuss one of the Names of God…Jehovah-Rapha…The Lord Heals or “I am the Lord Your Physician or I am the Lord Your Healer” This name is not a name that someone else gave God. God spoke this name about Himself.
…for I Am the Lord Who heals you.
Since this is just a blog and not a book, I will only be able to lightly touch on God as our healer. First things first… we need to remember is if God is our healer! Since God is our healer, He is not the one who makes us sick! God is not trying to teach you a lesson in your illness! We would call a parent who said to his/her child, “I am going to put cancer on you to teach you a lesson.” an abusive parent and we would be right!
God will use everything in our lives to bring glory to His Kingdom. God’s Word promises us that He works all things together for our good. That means God takes the good, the bad and the ugly that we give to Him and works it all together for our good. The Bible never says that we won’t have trouble. Quite the contrary. The Bible says in John 16:33, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” After all, you cannot have a testimony without a “test”. Some people only have the “moan…ies”.
Let’s take a look at what Jesus did for us. The scriptures below tell us that Jesus endured the torture He went through on the cross for you and me. Why? So that He could purchase our freedom from sickness, weakness, distress, sorrow, pain, punishment, guilt, iniquities, turmoil and more.
Isa 53:4-5 AMP
4 Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy]. [Matt 8:17.]
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole.
1 Peter 2:24 AMP
24 He personally bore our sins in His [own] body on the tree[as on an altar and offered Himself on it], that we might die (cease to exist) to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed.
Let’s look at this logically. If Jesus was going to put sickness on us, why did He pay for our healing on the cross? Anyone of you who have seen “The Passion of the Christ” know in part how sadistic the suffering endured on the cross was. God is not only able to heal us, but willing to heal us. He is The Healer!
If you need healing today, pray this prayer out loud with your lips.
