Proverbs 4:20-27 (Amplified Version)
20 My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings.
21 Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart.
22 For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh.
23 Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.
24 Put away from you false and dishonest speech, and willful and contrary talk put far from you.
25 Let your eyes look right on [with fixed purpose], and let your gaze be straight before you.
26 Consider well the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established and ordered aright.
27 Turn not aside to the right hand or to the left; remove your foot from evil.
Proverbs 4:20 tells us that the first thing we need to do to receive and walk in God’s divine health and healing…be it spiritually, physically, mentally or financially…is to attend to God’s Words!
According to the Greek the word “attend” from verse 20 is:
Attend – Greek – OT:7181 qashab (kaw-shab’); a primitive root; to prick up the ears, i.e. hearken: KJV – attend, (cause to) hear (-ken), give heed, incline, mark (well), regard.

To attend speaks of our intentional listening and doing what we hear. This is not a half-hearted I’m listening while surfing the internet, working on my IPad, or watching television!
We get the word “attendant” from the word attend. What does an attendant do? An attendant assists or helps a person. Similar to the way a nurse assists/attends a surgeon during surgery. It is critical that the nurse’s mind is not wandering or thinking about his/her grocery list, argument they had before going into surgery or anything else not associated with being as alert as they need to be to assist the doctor and patient. No! A good nurse is attending to each and every need of the surgeon and patient to make the surgery goes as accurately as possible! A matter of seconds can cause a person to live or die while having surgery! So to attend to God’s Word means that it is critical that we are intentional in our listening to God’s Word and then intentional in following through by doing what we hear!
